Physical Therapist
Founder of PTC Physical Therapy and SmartMovesPT

DavidDavid Dansereau is an experienced healthcare professional with a proactive background in nutrition, fitness and wellness where he began his career as a clinical Registered Dietitian (RD) and sports nutritionist.

In a clinical rehabilitation role, David has 21 years of experience as a physical therapist (PT) in a variety of practice settings including acute care, private practice, home care as well as in the motion picture industry working with actors and with pro athletes as part of his hybrid private consulting model employing Telehealth and mobile care delivery.

Most recently he has expanded his rehab technology consultancy services to industry serving in clinical PT lead roles in sport performance, rehabilitation technology consulting and digital therapeutic product development. In this capacity, he has assisted four of the top rehabilitation technology vendors in the US and UK with the development and deployment of their therapeutic exercise and Telehealth engagement portals. He has recently added a new Telehealth expert role in physical therapy as Clinical Research Consultant within the University of Rhode Island’s Biosensing Lab.

In private practice, he was the first facility on the east coast to offer an accurate and clinically validated mobile metabolic testing service. Both these early adopter technology experiences laid the foundation for his interest in the potential for using sensors and biofeedback to help give patients more control over their own health and recovery. These experiences now fuel his passion for further development of digital-first healthcare technology adoption across the care continuum.

On the patient advocacy side, as a stroke survivor at age 39, David became a co-founding member and Vice President of the patient led PFO Research Foundation. He also is currently a co-founding partner of EnableUs, a community for supporting life after stroke. He recently launched the Know Stroke Podcast with my EnableUs co-founder to expand the reach and voice of our stroke community.

In his most recent clinical consulting role he just completed as Wellness and Sports Services Director at a local PT clinic in RI, he managed the launch of their Telehealth strategy during the pandemic with the deployment of SmartMovesPT Telehealth. During his tenure, he also built, tested and validated six self-help wellness and rehabilitation courses with a special focus targeting the needs of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke and balance disorders.  In this role he led a remote clinical trial as the Principal Investigator for a privately funded research pilot for a home bilateral training device for stroke recovery.

He is an Amazon best-selling author in preventive medicine with his book, Body in Balance. He is working on his second book, a “chicken soup” type book about survivor stories, and his advocacy efforts to spread stroke awareness and provide more technology enabled solutions for survivorship are embedded into the story of his stroke journey.
